DES MOINES, Iowa - For a third year, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has partnered with MyCatch by Angler's Atlas to conduct a statewide walleye fishing challenge from now through June 30.
For this challenge, DNR fisheries biologists will be able to receive general lake and river catch data, as well as to monitor walleye populations.
While certain data is given, the MyCatch mobile app maintains anonymous location data.
Here's Jeff Kopaska from the Fisheries Bureau of the DNR explained why the data that is collected from fishing participants is important for aquatic ecosystems:
Iowa angers compete only against other Iowa anglers for biweekly prizes. All catches from the Midwest will qualify for the grand prize drawings at the end of the event.
You can register for the challenge at anglersatlas.com.
