MO USDA offering opportunity for grazing operations

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is rolling out a golden opportunity for grazing operations to enhance their resilience to climate change through the Native Forage Initiative.

This initiative is part of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program ACT NOW funding. It aims to diversify operations and bolster climate resiliency by promoting the establishment of native forages.

Producers and landowners can tap into technical and financial assistance to renovate existing non-native forage or convert cropland to native forage.

Native grasses offer a plethora of benefits, from increasing weight gain in livestock during the summer slump to improving conception rates and withstanding drought conditions.

Applications for the EQIP Climate Smart Agriculture – Native Forages Initiative are being accepted until May 31. However, eligible applications meeting a minimum threshold will be preapproved immediately.
