JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri turkey hunters have reason to celebrate as preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation reveals a successful 2024 spring turkey season.

According to MDC, hunters killed over 43,000 birds during the regular spring turkey season, which ran from April 15 to May 5.

Additionally, young turkey hunters had a fruitful weekend during the youth hunt on April 6 and 7, killing over 3,700 turkeys. The overall spring turkey hunt for 2024 is an impressive 47,119 birds.

Compared to 2023, this represents a notable six-percent increase in total harvest, and a substantial 20-percent increase compared to the previous five-year average.

This is the third year in a row in which numbers have increased. Officials attributed the rise to several factors, including the ability to hunt all day on private land and better hatch success since 2021.
