CLARINDA, Iowa - Joan Wells, the women's world champion trick roper and National Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductee, will perform a special trick and fancy roping show in Clarinda on Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m.

At the Lied Public Library, Wells will showcase the history and skills of trick roping, a tradition popularized by Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1883.

Buffalo Bill's show introduced Americans to trick roping, giving cowboys a new perspective on the art. Joan not only demonstrates these historic techniques but also shares the rich history of the performers from that era.

Wells won the Women's World Champion Trick Roper title in 1979 and was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1989.

With a degree in Physical Education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, she has competed in prestigious contests and continues to perform at various events, schools, museums, and Wild West reenactments.
