DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking public assistance for its annual wild turkey production survey.
Throughout July and August, residents are encouraged to report wild turkey sightings to help estimate nesting rates and nest success.
Participation is straightforward: record the date and county of the sighting, whether the turkey was an adult male or female, and the number of baby turkeys present. The survey can be completed online at the DNR’s website.
A guide on the survey page helps participants distinguish between males and females and identify poults of different ages. These annual surveys are crucial for managing Iowa’s wild turkey population, which can vary across the state.
Participation from the public is highly valued. For more details and to view the 2023 survey results, visit the DNR’s wild turkey hunting page.
