Iowa hunters are being reminded about upcoming changes

DES MOINES, Iowa - Hunters should be aware of several regulation changes for the 2024-25 hunting seasons in Iowa that affect deer hunters, waterfowl hunters, and furharvesters.

For deer hunting, nonresidents are now clearly prohibited from party hunting, which allows a group to use a single tag for multiple deer. This rule is clarified for the Gun 1, Gun 2, and January antlerless seasons.

Additionally, the Population Management January Antlerless Season will be open in seven counties if unsold licenses exceed 100 by mid-December, and six counties have been added to the buck-only list for the first gun season.

Antlerless quotas have also been adjusted in 12 counties. Regarding trail cameras, the Iowa D-N-R has postponed changes to their use on public land to gather more public input.

For migratory bird hunters, all licensed hunters must register for the Harvest Information Program annually, and the federal E-Stamp is now valid for the entire hunting season, with physical stamps mailed post-season.

Non-licensed youth hunters are exempt from HIP registration. For furharvesters, individuals under 16 can trap furbearing animals without a license if accompanied by a licensed adult.
