JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - With dry and hot weather affecting Missouri, the Missouri Department of Conservation is urging everyone to be extra cautious with fireworks, campfires, and other fire sources to prevent wildfires.
The MDC advises against lighting fireworks near dry grass, leaves, or other flammable materials. Always have a fire extinguisher and a water supply nearby to douse any sparks or flames.
Fireworks are not allowed in conservation areas, and it's important to check local ordinances for any bans on fireworks and open burning.
Outdoor burning should be avoided during dry conditions, as high temperatures, low humidity, and wind make fires difficult to control. It's crucial to consult local fire departments about any burn bans in place.
Remember, anyone who starts a fire is responsible for any damage it causes. Driving off-road can also pose a wildfire risk if dry grass comes into contact with catalytic converters.
Avoid driving through or parking on tall grass and regularly inspect your vehicle's undercarriage for any leaks. Always carry a fire extinguisher when driving off-road.
