CRESTON, Iowa - Lake levels at Three Mile Lake, near Creston in Union County, will be lowered an additional three feet as part of an ongoing restoration project.
The lake will be kept around eleven feet below normal to allow for construction on the lake bed and shoreline. The water is being released gradually to avoid downstream issues.
The project began in fall 2023 and is expected to wrap up by spring 2025, after which the lake will be refilled.
Recreation and boating access will be maintained, but boaters should be cautious as tree stumps and brush piles may be near the surface.
The restoration aims to enhance water quality and recreational options with shoreline stabilization, fish habitat improvements, and more. For details, call 515-201-6775, or visit iowadnr.gov.
