States receive federal aid for a variety of reasons, but in our listening area, aid packages might not be as big as others.
According to the financial website, Wallet-Hub, Kansas is ranked third in the nation when it comes to being the least dependent on the federal government. As for the other states in our listening area, Iowa ranked 7th, Nebraska ranked 15th and Missouri ranked 27th.
Wallet-Hub looked at several metrics, including the amount of federal contracts and grants received, the state's gross domestic product and several other factors. The least dependent state was New Jersey while the most dependent state was Alaska.
