CLARINDA, Iowa- The Lied Public Library of Clarinda is hosting a fascinating exhibition on a key part of American History. "Life and Limb: The Toll of the American Civil War" exhibit will be on display from Monday, Aug. 26 to Oct. 5.
This free exhibit, open during regular library hours, explores the experiences of soldiers who were disabled by battlefield injuries or surgeries during the Civil War.
With over three million soldiers fighting in the war, more than half a million died, and many were left permanently disabled. The exhibition highlights these veterans as symbols of the nation's fractured state post-war.
The National Library of Medicine produced the exhibition, which includes educational materials for K-12 and university students.
