MO AG briefly considered for President-elect's administration

WASHINGTON - Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey was briefly considered for the role of U.S. attorney general in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, even interviewing with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

However, by Wednesday, Trump announced his pick: Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, citing Gaetz’s loyalty and commitment to Trump’s agenda.

Bailey, who has served as Missouri’s attorney general since being appointed by Governor Mike Parson in 2022, has built a reputation for his confrontational approach.

His record includes multiple lawsuits against the federal government, opposition to federal student loan forgiveness, and actions against gender-affirming care in Missouri.

He’s also been criticized for his ties to political donors and for alleged mismanagement within his office, including missed appeals in high-profile cases and ethics complaints.

While Bailey didn’t get the federal role, he remains a staunch Trump supporter.
