Davis stays local – All-State WR signs with Northwest

Delton Davis signs to play for Northwest Missouri State

Delton Davis will graduate as the Maryville all-time leader in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.


The most prolific wide receiver in Maryville history will join the football program he grew up watching.

Delton Davis signed his letter of intent Wednesday morning to play for Northwest Missouri State.

"Northwest had always been in the picture," Davis said after his signing. "I just went on a visit there and that was kind of what sealed it. Just being around all those guys, they definitely have that family culture, that family feel. That was really what did it for me."

The Maryville native is one of five wide receivers in this year's Bearcat recruiting clsas.

Davis capped his senior season with the Spoofhounds hauling in 57 receptions for 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for 171 yards and three scores.

Davis, a team captain, also led the Spoofhounds to a 9-2 record and outright MEC title during his senior year.

The 6-foot-1 wide receiver’s name is all over the Maryville record books. He’s the program’s all-time leader with 1,963 receiving yards, and set the single-game mark with 181 yards against St. Pius last fall. Davis’ 25 career receiving touchdowns are also the most by a Spoofhound.

In a career full of highlights, Maryville head coach Matt Webb looked to the opening drive against Cameron on Homecoming this year, with the Northwest football team lining the back of the end zone, when Davis caught a touchdown pass as a play that stands out.

"Delton caught a pass right there in front of the Bearcats that were behind the end zone," Webb said. "That was kind of a neat moment, and just specifically thinking yes it's just one touchdown, but he gave some high fives to the Bearcats in the back of the end zone. That's something that I'll always remember now looking back that he's one of them."

At the conclusion of his junior and senior seasons, Davis was a unanimous selection for First Team All-Midland Empire Conference wide receiver. He was also named Third Team All-State by the Missouri Football Coaches Association in 2023.
