Tiffany Hughey earned USTFCCCA D2 Female Athlete of the Week honors after posting a personal best Friday in Albuquerque.

Tiffany Hughey's unforgettable weekend was capped Tuesday morning with USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors.

Hughey is the first Northwest Missouri State track & field athlete to ever receive the national award.

The Lee's Summit, MO product posted a personal best 53.27 seconds in the 400m prelims at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM. Hughey's time is the fastest in NCAA Division 2 this year, and the 11th fastest all-time.

The seven-time All-American was competing against professional runners with Olympic and World Championship experience. She rose to the occasion despite battling illness leading up to the competition.

"I wasn't even sure if I was going to make it in," Hughey said. "I was sick the entire week before that competition...I didn't want to waste an opportunity to be able to be challenged by literally the best in the USA. It was a really cool experience."

Hughey, now back in Maryville, will spend the week preparing for the MIAA Championships in Topeka, KS. She is the defending champion in the 400m and the 4x400m relay.
