Sundell teams up with Northwest, speaks at Bearcat Youth Camp

Maryville High School alumnus and Kansas State point guard Serena Sundell teamed up with Northwest Missouri State women's basketball at the team's annual youth camp.

Head coach Austin Meyer and the Bearcats hosted over 150 second through eighth graders to teach fundamentals of the game, and Sundell joined them as a special guest Tuesday.

"Coach Meyer has been great to me throughout my college career – he's always been a big supporter of me," Sundell said. "He just shot me a text and it worked out, so I was able get out there for a little bit."

The Kansas State senior spoke to the youth campers, signed autographs and took photos.

She didn't want to pass up the opportunity to give back to the commuity where she grew her love for the game.

"It was a super special opportunity for me to come back to the Northwest camp specifically, just because I was one of those little girls at one time."

Sundell graduated from Maryville High School in 2021 as the Spoofhounds' all-time leading scorer and the Class 4 Player of the Year. She's continued to flourish in Manhattan. Sundell earned All-Big 12 honors each of her first three seasons at K-State, including a first team selection in 2024.

Sundell understands the platform she has, and uses it to encourage the next generation of girls to continue chasing their dreams.

"Honestly, that's one of the main reasons why I still love to play and why I do what I do – just to be an inspiration to younger girls from small towns like where I'm from," Sundell said. "Just be an inspiration and someone they can look up to and know that it is possible, no matter where they come from, to play at the highest level if that's what they want to do."
