CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - The 18th Annual Chillicothe Polar Plunge is making waves on Saturday, February 1 at Simpson Park in Chillicothe.
This chilly tradition raises funds for Special Olympics Missouri, supporting thousands of athletes statewide, including many in northern Missouri.
The plunge, open to anyone 10 and older, kicks off with registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by the main event at 1 p.m., hosted by the Chillicothe Correctional Center.
Participants must raise at least $75 to join and can earn incentives like commemorative shirts and more for higher fundraising totals.
Last year’s plunge raised over $10,000, and this year’s goal is set at $11,000 as part of the Special Olympics statewide effort to top $1 million.
Costumes are encouraged, with awards for top fundraisers and creative outfits under the "Golden Plunger" category.
For those who are interested, you can register online or via forms from the Special Olympics office in St. Joseph.
