ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about ongoing phone scams involving false warrant claims.
In a social media post on yesterday, the Sheriff’s Office reported scammers are posing as deputies, telling people they’ve missed court and have warrants for their arrest.
The scammers even instruct victims to visit the Law Enforcement Center but then demand payment over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that deputies will never ask for money over the phone.
If someone is asked to come to the Law Enforcement Center, they should ensure they speak with an officer in person rather than making payments via phone.
For concerns or to report suspicious calls, residents are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 816-236-8812.
