WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - Hy-Vee is ending its partnership with Wahlburgers, replacing all 79 in-store locations with its own Market Grille brand.
The change reflects the Iowa-based grocery chain’s focus on offering more in-house food options.
Wahlburgers, owned by Paul Wahlberg and his brothers, actors Donnie and Mark, began collaborating with Hy-Vee about a decade ago.
By 2020, Hy-Vee had converted its Market Grille restaurants into Wahlburgers, becoming the burger chain’s largest franchisee.
However, Wahlburgers reportedly was unhappy with the performance of its Hy-Vee locations and will now focus on standalone restaurants. Hy-Vee says customers wanted more variety, prompting the return of the Market Grille.
The new menus will roll out at all 221 Market Grille locations nationwide, including those being converted. Wahlburgers will retain its Hy-Vee-operated restaurant at the Mall of America as part of its new focus.
