DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has received funding to help disadvantaged schools plant trees through the Inflation Reduction Act’s Trees for Schools Grant.
The program, funded by the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides up to $5,000 per project for eligible public and private schools.
The grant covers the cost of trees, mulch, and summer watering for schools with 25 percent or more free and reduced lunches or located in eligible communities.
The initiative aims to increase tree canopies, involve students in tree planting, and enhance environmental benefits for schools. Applications are open now and due by 4 p.m. on March 21, with award notifications on April 1.
