MOUND CITY, Mo. - A deadly incident occured on I-29 near Mound City over the weekend, resulting in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a semi parked on the east shoulder of northbound I-29 Saurday became a downhill runaway, striking 33-year-old pedestrian from Neligh, Nebraska.
The truck then ran off the roadway, with its towed unit hitting a light pole before coming to rest on its wheels off the east side of the highway.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Holt County Coroner Gene Bradley at 12:58 p.m. The driver of the truck, whose identity and condition remain unclear, was not reported as injured.
The incident is under investigation, with assistance from the Holt County Sheriff's Office and Mound City Police.
