ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri law enforcement says over 1,000 motorists were stranded statewide during the weekend’s powerful winter storm, which dumped up to a foot of snow across northwestern Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to more than 2,000 calls for service by Sunday evening, including 1,043 stranded motorists and 356 crashes—31 involving injuries and one fatality.
In northwest Missouri’s Troop H, Public Information Officer Trooper Shane Hux says they handled 263 calls, including 113 stranded motorists and 14 non-injury crashes.
Officials say poor visibility and snow-covered roads made rescue efforts challenging, even for tow services.
As conditions improve, motorists are still urged to avoid travel unless necessary and expect delays due to ongoing lane closures while crews tow stranded vehicles.
The Patrol advises drivers to monitor weather updates through social media and outlets like KXCV and heed safety warnings.
