St. Joseph man dies days after officer-involved shooting

ATCHISON, Kan. - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that 36-year-old Bryson McCray of St. Joseph has died from injuries sustained in an officer-involved shooting during a standoff in Atchison.

The incident began Friday night when McCray allegedly attempted to break into a residence and took a woman hostage. After nearly nine hours, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper shot McCray during a rescue operation.

Life-saving measures were performed on McCray at the scene and at a local hospital, but he passed away early yesterday morning.

No other details have been released. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate the case.
