Recap on Clarinda City Council Meeting

The Clarinda City Council met earlier this week.

Highlights included a presentation from Library Director Andrew Hoppmann, who introduced the library’s new mobile book bike, funded by local grants. It will be used to promote literacy at schools and community events.

Clarinda resident Cindy Van Fosson spoke during public comments, urging the council to reconsider adding fluoride to the city’s water and raised questions about consent and alternatives.

The Clarinda Council approved the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, a five-year tax abatement for a new event venue on East Glenn Miller Drive, and set a May 14 public hearing on property at South 15th Street.

Two ordinances received first readings, one updating bicycle regulations and another addressing open burning. The council also approved a $149,862 payment for airport construction work.
