The Maryville City Council heard an update to the Maryville-Northwest Stormwater Improvement Project during last night's meeting. The project runs from just north of Bearcat Stadium on the Northwest campus through Judah Park along the Peach Creek corridor. Interim City Manager Ryan Heiland says the project will help alleviate a problem that has plagued the area for a long time.
"Anybody who has driven through the First and Munn, First and Frederick area knows that there is going to be a large amount of flooding that occurs in that area, so this should alleviate all of that flooding, it should alleviate some of the flooding that happens on campus with that so it's just a great partnership funded with a grant with the city and Northwest.", says Heiland.
Heiland adds the project will cause a change in traffic patterns beginning tomorrow on West First Street from Munn Avenue to Frederick Avenue.
"That should last for about two and half, three and a half weeks, weather dependent. There will be detour signs so please follow the detour signs and be safe and work your way around that area.", says Heiland.
The Missouri Department of Transportation-approved detour for truck traffic coming in and out of town begins at Icon and First Street on the West and Highway 71 By-pass and HIghway 136 on the East.
