An area high school athletic conference with a rich history in northwest Missouri is considering a major expansion that could shake up the sports landscape in the region.
The Grand River Conference will be voting on Friday to expand by at first four schools, which will include Trenton, St. Joseph Christian, North Andrew and Pattonsburg.
Secretary-Treasurer of the Grand River Conference Mike Adkins of Albany says the additions of those schools gives the conference several interesting possibilities.
Adkins says the expansion could give the GRC it's first conference championship for 8-man football.
Adkins adds further expansion could also be a boost to it's 11 man football playing members.
According to Adkins, the expansion could also create some interesting opportunities for other sports sanctioned by the Grand River Conference.
Grand River Conference officials will be meeting Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. to vote on the future of the GRC.
