Jan. 10, 2019Coaches Show
Northwest Missouri State men's and women's basketball came out of the holiday break strong, now they're looking to continue that momentum with a big matchup with Washburn Saturday.
The head coaches from each team, Ben McCollum and Austin Meyer, and a pair of athletes from each squad, Ryan Hawkins and Zoie Hayward, were guests on the KXCV Bearcat Coaches Show Thursday evening.
The women's team has played locked down defense through five MIAA games allowing just 60.2 points per game in conference contests. That led to a pair of wins in Oklahoma, and they held a high-scoring Emporia State team to just 54 points on Wednesday. Meyer and Hayward spoke about the strides the team has made, and what it will take to beat the Ichabods this weekend.
The men's basketball team squares off with the only other team with an unbeaten record in the MIAA Saturday when Washburn visits Maryville. The Ichabods are averaging 89 points in four league games. Northwest counters with the top scoring defense in the conference (62.7 points allowed per game). McCollum and Hawkins discussed the matchup that, despite coming in early January, has a lot riding on it.
