Central Oklahoma used a fast start to jump in front of Northwest Missouri State Saturday evening, and the Bearcats weren't able to recover in a 31-21 loss.
Northwest (3-1) only scored three first-half points, while UCO's Chandler Garrett through a pair of touchdown passes in the opening half to stake the Bronchos (2-2) to a 14-3 halftime lead.
Garrett connected for two more touchdown passes in the third quarter, including a 72-yard strike to Dustin Basks to expand the lead to 28-3.
The Bearcats went to work in the fourth quarter. Braden Wright rushed for a touchdown, and threw one to Shawn Bane. Parker Sampson also hit a field goal as Northwest outscored UCO 18-3 in the quarter, but th comeback fell short.
Wright finished the day 25-52 passing for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 43 yards and a score.
Cody Massey led Northwest in receiving with five receptions for 64 yards – both are career-highs.
The Bearcats return home next Saturday, September 29 for a game against Emporia State. Bearcat Gameday presented by Impact Interiors begins at 12:30pm on KXCV 90.5/KRNW 88.9, followed by kickoff at 1:30pm.
