Northwest Missouri State knocked off the only other unbeaten MIAA foe Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (16-0, 6-0 MIAA) topped the Washburn Ichabods (11-3, 4-1 MIAA) 83-75 inside Bearcat Arena.

Washburn hung with Northwest throughout the first half trading the lead seven times, but the 'Cats held a three-point lead with just three seconds remaining in the half. Joey Witthus rebounded a missed free throw attempt from WU's Devyn Wilson and sprinted to midcourt where he heaved a shot before the final second ticked off clock. The senior sank the buzzer-beater bringing the crowd to its feet as the Bearcats ran off the court with a six-point lead.

The momentum carried into the second half. The Witthus three opened a 16-6 Bearcat run that extended the lead to 48-35 with 15:35 remaining in the game.

Northwest largest lead reached 15 points twice in the second half. Washburn climbed back within seven points, but the comeback wouldn't get any closer.

Witthus led the 'Cats with 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. In the last three games, Witthus is averaging 30.7 points per game.

Trevor Hudgins scored 24 points on 9-18 shooting while also passing out six assists.

Ryan Hawkins finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Hawkins is 12th in the country with seven double-doubles on the season.

The Bearcats now have a week off before matching up with Missouri Western in a rivalry game Saturday, January 19. Tip off is set for 7:30pm with pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 beginning at 7:10pm.
