A slow start offensively for Northwest coupled with a solid fourth quarter from Washburn led to a 59-43 defeat in Topeka, KS Saturday afternoon.
Despite shooting 26-percent from the field, the Bearcats (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) hung with the Ichabods throughout the game trailing by just two at the end of the first quarter and six at halftime.
With three and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter, Kylie Coleman sank a three-pointer that put the 'Cats within three points of the Ichabods. WU extended the lead back to five, and Hayley Thompson banked in a half court shot as time expired. That opened a 12-2 run that gave Washburn some breathing room.
Mallory McConkey led Northwest with 16 points off the bench.
The next battle for the Bearcats comes on Saturday, January 18 in a home game against Missouri Western. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 1pm.
