Northwest Missouri State battled back and forth with Pittsburg State Thursday evening, but the Gorillas did enough down the stretch to hang on for a 66-to-62 win.
The game featured seven ties and five lead changes with neither team holding an advantage of more than 7seven points.
The Bearcats (15-8, 10-7 MIAA) shot just 1-10 from the field in the third quarter, but their defense kept them in it trailing by only three entering the fourth.
The teams were tied 51-51 with five minutes to go, but Pitt used a 9-2 run to put it out of reach.
Molly Hartnett led Northwest with 13 points. Jayna Green finished with nine points.
Kelsey Fields had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Northwest wraps up its road trip Saturday in Joplin against Missouri Southern. Tip-off is set for 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 1pm.
